A classic gimlet cocktail recipe to wow your guests.
The gimlet cocktail is loved by so many because it is so refreshing and easy to make.
A gimlet cocktail is made with gin, fresh lime juice and simple syrup and is classed as a sour cocktail because of its components. Many use lime cordial rather than fresh lime juice, specifically Rose’s lime cordial and there’s a reason.
The gin Gimlet came from English sailors during the 17th century, they came to understand that citrus fruits helped to prevent scurvy, so much so, it was mandatory for all British ships to carry rations of lime juice. In this time, a Scottish shipyard owner, Lauchlin Rose, created a process for preserving fruit juice with sugar, which came to be Rose’s Lime Cordial. So, sailors mixed equal parts of gin and lime cordial to make gimlets and we’ve been thankful of their creativity ever since. If you wish to use lime cordial, use the same amount of lime cordial as lime juice and remove the simple syrup, as it will be too sweet with both.
